Twister

Supporting compliance in a challenging operating environment.
Twister is an LPG carrier operated by Chemgas BV and designed to transport gas and chemical products along shallow inland waterways and rivers.
Due to the vessel’s operational profile, minimising downtime during installation was a critical project requirement. Space constraints and installation efficiency were key considerations when selecting treatment systems for retrofit integration.
As part of the Ballast Water Management System Type Approval programme, Twister was selected as the vessel on which the Hamworthy Aquarius UV Ballast Water Management System was installed and tested.
Fast-track ballast water compliance.
The Hamworthy Aquarius UV Ballast Water Management System was installed onboard Twister as part of the official Type Approval process.
The modular design of the Aquarius range proved particularly valuable for retrofit applications where space availability is often limited. The complete installation was completed in just three weeks, helping minimise operational disruption to the vessel.
Following successful completion of the trial programme and demonstration of full compliance with the IMO D2 performance standard, Aquarius UV received Type Approval in accordance with the 2004 IMO Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments.
The system became the first ballast water management system to receive full endorsement and Type Approval from the Flag Administration of the Netherlands.
Integrated wastewater treatment onboard.
In addition to ballast water treatment, Twister was fitted with a Hamworthy Super Trident ST1A Sewage Treatment Plant.
Certified to meet IMO MEPC 159(55) requirements, the system is designed to process both black and grey wastewater streams and is compatible with conventional gravity-fed and vacuum collection systems.
The fully automated design supports unattended operation, reduced maintenance requirements, and lower long-term operational costs.
