Cruise

Built for one of the world's most ambitious passenger vessels.

At the time of her construction in 2003 by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Queen Mary 2 was the longest, widest, and tallest passenger ship ever built, as well as the largest ocean liner in operation.

Developed for Cunard Line as part of the Queen Mary Project, the vessel was designed to revive the tradition of trans-Atlantic ocean travel while combining modern engineering, operational performance, and passenger comfort at scale.

To support the vessel’s significant onboard operational demands, the ship was powered by four Wärtsilä 46 engines with a combined output of 67.2 MW, incorporating advanced common-rail fuel injection technology designed to minimise visible emissions during operation.

As part of the onboard environmental systems package, Queen Mary 2 was also equipped with Hamworthy Membrane BioReactor wastewater treatment systems.

Advanced wastewater treatment for high-capacity passenger operation.

Queen Mary 2 was fitted with Hamworthy Membrane BioReactor (MBR) systems designed to support advanced onboard wastewater treatment for large passenger vessel environments.

The system combines biological degradation and membrane separation technology to treat both grey and black water while supporting high-quality discharge performance without requiring hazardous chemical generation onboard.

Designed for continuous marine operation, the MBR systems help support efficient wastewater management, operational reliability, and environmental compliance across high-capacity passenger operations.

Designed for demanding passenger vessel environments.

Large passenger vessels require onboard systems capable of supporting continuous operation while managing significant wastewater volumes efficiently and reliably.

The wastewater treatment systems installed aboard Queen Mary 2 were selected to support:

  • High-capacity wastewater treatment
  • Long-term operational reliability
  • Efficient onboard integration
  • Reduced operational burden
  • Compliance with marine environmental standards

Hamworthy systems were integrated to support reliable vessel operation across extended global passenger routes.

Products used onboard.
