The Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers were developed to give the United Kingdom the capability to project naval power globally across both sea and land operations.

HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are the largest warships ever built in the UK and among the most advanced aircraft carriers operating outside the U.S. Navy.

Designed for complex long-term naval deployment, the vessels required onboard systems capable of meeting demanding operational, environmental, and reliability requirements across the full lifecycle of the asset.

The Queen Elizabeth-class carriers were equipped with Hamworthy Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) systems for advanced onboard wastewater treatment.

The system combines biological degradation and membrane separation technology to treat both grey and black water while supporting high-quality discharge performance without requiring hazardous chemical generation onboard.

Designed for demanding marine operation, the MBR systems help support operational reliability, environmental compliance, and efficient onboard wastewater management across extended deployment conditions.
