The innovative MBR system is an evolution of the company’s proven sewage treatment technology for handling grey and black water waste.
With over 30 years experience in wastewater treatment, Hamworthy is ready to serve the needs of the offshore industry and meet the challenges of protecting the environment. The Membrane BioReactor (MBR) produces the highest quality discharge without requiring any addition or generation of chemicals that are hazardous to the environment or ship operation.
Hamworthy’s wealth of experience in shipboard wastewater treatment – notably with its Super Trident plant – was used to create a system capable of meeting current and future effluent quality standards.
Hamworthy’s Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology is an advanced wastewater treatment process based on biological degradation and membrane separation, yielding the highest quality discharge without requiring any addition or generation of chemicals hazardous to the maritime or shipboard environment.
Hamworthy continues to optimise the MBR system design. By building on our successful experiences and working closely with customers, we have successfully rolled out the MBR Mk II and Mk III systems across wider offshore sectors, with reduced energy consumption, costs and importantly, operational man-hours.
As well as the ‘Safe Astoria’ rig operated by Prosafe, the semi-submersible drilling rigs ‘DadaGorgud’ and ‘Istiglal’ operated by Caspian Drilling Company and owned by SOCAR have also been retrofitted with Hamworthy membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology.
