LNG liquefaction

Gas training at the Kollsnes plant, Norway

Our highly qualified engineers are involved in seeking innovative solutions within the engineering and design of LNG production plants suitable for small to medium size liquefaction capacities.

Hamworthy Gas Systems is a leading developer and supplier of gas handling and liquefaction technology. Hamworthy delivered its first onshore LNG production facility in early 2003, to Gasnor in Snurrevarden, Norway. For over five years northern Europe’s first free-standing small-scale LNG production facility has demonstrated the potential of Hamworthy’s onshore liquefaction technology. The Snurrevarden LNG production plant is based on the single-stage reversed nitrogen based Brayton cycle, which combines simplicity and robustness, enabling unmanned operation.

In mid 2007 Hamworthy commissioned its second onshore LNG production facility, also for Gasnor, on the west coast of Norway, in Kollsnes, close to Bergen. This plant introduced an improved liquefaction system with double expanders based on the reversed Brayton cycle.

To meet environmental onshore demands, Hamworthy developed liquefaction plants for even lower capacities, called MiniLNG™.  These plants use standard off-the-shelf equipment for low investment cost and fast manufacture of the liquefaction unit. The plant may be movable and utilise a mixed refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle for low energy demand.
