Hamworthy Moss AS has signed an order for 10 shipsets of Inert Gas Systems worth over US$3.5m, which will be delivered to the new shipyard Estaleiro Atlantico Sul which is based in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The purchase will be performed by Samsung´s purchase organization, PILS. The transport unit Transpetro, of the Brazilian national oil company Petrobras, ordered the 10 Suezmax tankers earlier this year. The series of 157,500 dwt ships are the largest of the 26 tanker newbuildings of various types and sizes that form the first phase of Transpetro’s fleet expansion and modernisation programme, for which construction of 42 tankers altogether is forecast.
The packages will be delivered from May 2009 throughout 2011. Hamworthy Moss´ last order at Petrobras was Barracuda & Caratinga at Jurong and Fels Setal, delivered in 2002.
This order coincides with the agreement signed earlier this year to supply 10 shipsets of pump room systems to Estaleiro worth a total of around US$12 million. These packages are due to be delivered from January 2009 throughout 2011. This was a major breakthrough for Hamworthy and together with this order for Inert Gas Systems further defines our position in the market.
