Hamworthy is paving the way for complete recovery of VOC emissions during offshore oil loading. Hamworthy has developed a solution for VOC recovery that not only meets the Norwegian authorities’ requirements for NMVOCs, but also exceeds them by reducing VOC emissions by 100 per cent. This includes methane, which is not currently specified in the regulatory requirements.
The VOC condensation system utilises proven components and technology. Development and operational experiences have been gained from the supply of a pilot plant to the shuttle tanker Navion Viking. This was further optimised on the first VOC condensation systems with zero emissions which were installed on the shuttle tanker Stena Alexita operating for ExxonMobil on the Jotun and Balder oil fields in the North Sea. As a result of this, Hamworthy has been awarded the contract to supply six more of its VOC recovery plants to the Norwegian oil industry, so that the oil companies can meet the authorities’ emission regulations.
Hydrocarbon Gas Recovery
Our VOC recovery system for Hydrocarbon Gas is based on the principle of absorption and membrane separation which allows organic components in any vent gas to be returned to their place of origin, resulting in both increased product output and environmental benefits. The VOC recovery system is designed to collect and liquefy up to 99% of hydrocarbons in a single stage and requires only electric power and cooling water. The system does not create new emissions or contaminated waste. The compact modular design, which is assembled and tested prior to shipment to customer, ensures short installation time.
