A significant portion of Associated Petroleum Gases (APG) are released into the atmosphere, un-ignited (vented) or ignited (flared). There is an international drive to reduce these emissions by recovering APG being flared. Recovered APG will also contribute to meet the increasing energy demand throughout the world.
A challenge for the offshore No Flare solution is typically space and weight restrictions and also variations in APG compositions. On top of all the considerations to be made, safety should prevail. Hamworthy therefore has proposed a non-combustible refrigerant. Used in an expansion cycle, as the reversed Brayton loop, impact on existing risk levels is at its minimum.
